Modern watches for men bear little resemblance to the timepieces of a century or two ago. Stylish watches for men today are almost exclusively wristwatches. But if you’d tried to wear one of these at the turn of the twentieth century, you might have drawn laughter.
At that point, pocket watches where what the well-dressed gentleman wore. And, if it hadn't been for World War I, they might still be in fashion. How did the war change things? It was a matter of convenience.
When you're in combat, you've got to carry your pack, rifle, and keep an eye out for the enemy. A pocket watch is poorly suited for these situations. You'd have to find the chain, and then open the watch before being able to see the time. In the interim, you might miss a bullet heading your way.
The soldiers started fashioning their own wristwatch contraption, and a stepped-up version quickly became popular in post-war society.
Nowadays, we don't need to duck bullets on a daily basis. In fact, with a smartphone in our pocket, we don't really even need a watch, right? That hasn't dimmed their appeal, though. After all, if you want to check the time discreetly, it's a lot easier to check your wrist than haul out your smartphone and light it up.
Cool modern watches for men serve more than just a practical purpose. They are an accessory that says something about the people wearing them, too. A finely crafted timepiece shows that you appreciate the finer things. A flashy, designer brand is a way to show people you’ve got a lot of money.
Every style of modern watches for young men today says something about the wearer. So, when you’re buying a new watch, think first about what you want it to say about you. With Nordgreen timepieces, you'll show your exquisite taste and confirm that you are confident and have nothing to prove with fancy diamonds and other features.
Men don’t generally have access to the vast array of accessories that women wear every day. Fortunately for a man, you can polish any look with one of the best modern watches for women.
A high-quality watch can even become a family heirloom, passed from one generation to the next. The key to ensuring that your heirloom never looks dated is to choose a style that’s simple and classic.
A trendy watch will work well for one season, or perhaps two at a stretch. After that, though, it’s going to gather dust in the drawer because it will be out of style. It’s better to buy something a little more expensive that won’t get dated too fast.
If you're hesitant about spending more than a few dollars for a watch, consider your cost-per-wear. Let's say you pay $50 for a fashion watch and wear it every day for three months. That's 90 wears over that time, or $0.56 per wear. That doesn't sound bad on its own.
Now let’s consider one of our high-quality Nordgreen models. You’ll pay about $220 for one, but you’ll be able to wear it for years. Assuming that you wear it every day for two years only, it’ll cost you $0.30 per wear. Now, since it will last far longer than two years, that figure is still high.
So, even if you pay more for our classic models, you’re still getting a better deal.
We’re proud to present our full range of men’s watches. We keep things simple by sticking to four main designs. Why? In Denmark, we’re firm believers in the principle of hygge (pronounced hoog-uh). Hygge reminds us to pay attention and live in the moment.
It's about clearing extraneous clutter and reverting to a simpler way of living. Our timepieces are perfectly designed to remind you of the hygge philosophy daily.
We’ve kept our watch designs basic, but we offer a range of customizable options so you can build it to match your style and personality. Here’s how you can create your version of our models:
Not all customizations are available for every model. But you’ll be able to see which apply by clicking through to the detailed page for each item.
The Pioneer is a chronograph for men who are serious about timekeeping. A dive watch looks interesting, but how many of those features will you ever really use? With the Pioneer, you have one dial to count off the seconds, one that acts as a stopwatch, plus the date, hours, and minutes marked on the face. Here are your options:
Timeless design and simplicity merge to stunning effect in the Native. There is not a single extraneous detail on this one. Only the hours are marked, and there's no date feature. What you get is a smooth, clean design finished off with traditional lugs to fasten the band.
This is a model that offers an extra element of style. The face consists of two parts. The outer edge, with the hours and minutes marked, is curved and brushed steel. The dial is elevated to make it easier to read. There is also a hand that ticks off the seconds, and a date feature.
With the infinity, we wanted to keep things simple. All the hours and minutes are marked, but there are no other distractions. There are no lugs or date features with this style.
We've made a name for ourselves via exquisite design and outstanding craftsmanship. Every Nordgreen watch is assembled by hand, checked, and rechecked before we ship it to you. From the start, we knew that only exceptional quality would do.
That’s why we started by partnering with Jakob Wagner. Wagner is one of the top designers in Scandinavia. He’s known for creating clean, uncluttered designs. As a result, we thought he’d be an excellent fit for the aesthetic we wanted to create. And that he was!
Our next step was to ensure that the working parts were of exceptional quality. We chose to use Miyota movements because they’re the best in the world. We also sourced the best durable sapphire glass for the covers.
For the watch casings, we use high-grade stainless steel. We source the finest Italian leather to fashion the straps. Naturally, we wanted our clients to have options, so we also source rubber, stainless steel, and nylon straps. For those who live a vegan lifestyle, we found excellent quality vegan leather.
Of course, demanding the best quality had us looking at climbing costs. So, we needed to go back to the drawing board to talk about essential features.
If we added a load of extra features, we couldn’t afford to charge a reasonable rate for the watches. As a result, we compromised – we skipped the additional features and stuck with classic simplicity and excellent quality.
This business model helped us create a sustainable company – another of our goals. We want our business to make the world a better place, so social responsibility is fundamental to us. As a result, we donate a portion from every watch sale to one of three charitable areas:
What's different about our social responsibility program is that you, the buyer, decide where we send the donation from your sale. When you make your purchase, you'll get to choose between the three options listed above and decide who benefits from your purchase.
At Nordgreen, we care about more than just making a profit. We want to make a real difference. And we’re making that happen every day. Would you like to help us make a difference?
