Add a Free Vegan (Non-Leather) Strap with every Watch or Set:
The most sustainable thing you can do is not to wear a watch. We want to be the best alternative to that, as we believe that we all have an inherent responsibility to do better. What we did yesterday should be outdone by what we do today and tomorrow forward, to help ensure a lifetime for the generations to come. That is why we see it as our responsibility to create means for giving back through initiatives that facilitate the transition towards a more sustainable tomorrow, with respect towards our communities and the environment.
Every watch sold contributes to a meaningful cause, by letting our customers decide which one resonates with them the most. We strongly encourage that they choose the charity themselves, however regardless of whether that is done, or not, a portion of each watch sold is equally distributed between our partner NGOs.

We aim to produce high quality watches with timeless design, and in doing so, we create long-lasting products. Creating products that aren’t being disposed of or replaced every season, is in the core of our sustainability journey.
In addition, we are working towards transforming every aspect of our business, with the goal of becoming carbon neutral. Nordgreen’s sustainability efforts are invested in a number of ongoing practices that aim to trace the impact of materials’ sourcing and product transporting, find and put in use the most sustainable materials and logistical solutions, ensure full transparency and traceability of our environmental impact, and calculate and offset our carbon footprint.
In line with our mission to ensure that we do not create excessive waste, we decided to create an initiative to re-use and re-sell our used products.
The watches that have previously been used and sent back to us, are repaired and polished, in order to meet the same standard as brand new watches, and are on sale at our refurbished store.
All our leather complies with the EU chemical legislation REACH and it originates from tanneries in Italy, which are all members of the Leather Working Group (LWG), AQC or follow the ISO9001 and ISO14001 standard.
The raw cow hide used by our suppliers is of European origin and is a byproduct from the food industry - meaning that no cows are slaughtered for their skin only.
Our vegan leather contains no conflict minerals, no heavy metal stabilizers, no plastic phthalates, no persistent organic pollutants and no toxic by-products. Over 99% of the solvents are recaptured and recycled. The lining of our vegan leather watch straps are made of non-woven polyester (100% recycled ultra-microfiber) with a non-fibrous polyurethane binder. The vegan leather is GreenGuard certified and complies with RoHS.
All our batteries carry the CE mark. The CE mark is a guarantee that the products meet high safety, health, and environmental protection requirements, as well as the Restriction of Hazardous Substances managed by Directorate-General for Environment.
They also comply with RoHs, also known as Directive 2002/95/EC, which restricts the use of specific hazardous materials found in electrical and electronic products.
Animals must be fed and treated with dignity and respect. No animal must deliberately be harmed, nor exposed to pain in their lifespan, which is the basis of our partnership agreement with our supplier.
The leather used in our production originates from tanneries in Italy, which are all members of (LWG), AQC or follow the ISO9001 and ISO14001 standard.
In accordance with our agreement with our supplier, the raw cow hide used for the production of our leather straps is of European origin and is a byproduct from the food industry - meaning that no cows are slaughtered for their skin only.
Our tote bags are made of 96% recycled cotton and 4% recycled polyester from post-consumer waste. The material carries the GRS- and Fairtrade certificates.
Our face masks are made of 100% organic cotton and are GOTS- and Fairtrade certified. Furthermore, the supplier is B-Corp certified, meaning that they have to live up to various requirements within the five main pillars of governance, workers, community, environment, and consumers.
REPAIR AND MAINTENANCE
The watches with defects that we receive as returns are collected and sent back to our supplier for repair approximately once every quarter, in order to minimise the amount of shipments as much as possible.
Our Nordgreen packaging is made of recycled paper and plastic bottles, and is designed to use as little material as possible.
Our shipping boxes are made of FSC certified cardboard paper, which ensures that the material originates from responsibly managed forests.
We currently have full traceability on all our Tier 1 suppliers and some Tier 2 suppliers, and we have the ambition of achieving full traceability in at least Tier 2 and Tier 3 of our supply chain.
SHIPPING AND LOGISTICS
We wish to minimize our environmental footprint when it comes to the transportation of our products. Due to our products being relatively small in size, we ship a considerable part of
our production via air. While currently we offset our carbon footprint of all our transportation, we are continuously working towards finding even more sustainable solutions for the future.
In 2020 we emitted 663 tonnes via Last mile shipments (from warehouse to customer) and that they have all been offset via the Burgos Wind Project.
In January 2021 we partnered with CleanHub, in order to calculate the offset of our plastic use for every watch sold (including the packaging) and plastic offset for all full time employees, equivalent to the world average of 7 kg per person/month. This way our total offset as an organization will be calculated on an ongoing quarterly basis.
GOTS - Global Organic Textile Standard
GOTS is the world's leading standard for organic fibers and covers the entire production chain, from field to finished product. GOTS covers the processing, manufacturing, packaging, labeling, trade and distribution of all textiles manufactured of at least 70% certified organic natural fibers.
The standard contains both social and environmental criteria that ensure the regulation of working conditions, wastewater treatment, use of chemicals, product quality requirements, etc.

GRS - Global Recycling Standard
GRS aims to document the recycled content of a product. It ensures that all production processes throughout the supply chain have gone through the right steps to ensure the integrity of the final product. This standard also addresses issues related to environmental and social criteria. GRS uses a transaction certificate system that enables optimal tracking of recycled materials. This acts as a monitoring and control mechanism in the entire value chain of the certified end product.

Our products are manufactured in a Danish-owned watch factory in China. The facility has excellent working conditions, based on Danish labour practices.
Our manufacturer recycles their waste of cardboard paper, plastic and papers, and they trace the factory’s energy and water usage.
Furthermore, a suction duct system has been installed to test the waste air in the assembly area, in order to keep the inside clean, and protect the workers. Our manufacturer has a labour union and an internal employees suggestion box that is handled by the HR, with the purpose of gathering and finding solutions for incoming suggestions.
They follow rules and regulations, according to the Government Labour Laws, to pay wages no later than each month 7th and each employer has publicly paid vacation. The employees are paid monthly wages that are slightly higher than the industry standard. Overtime wages to the employees follow the Government Labor Laws.
We are committed to running a responsible and sustainable business. Ensuring that our products are produced under responsible conditions stands at the core of this commitment, and in order to fulfil our ambition, we expect all our partners – suppliers, subcontractors, agents, and other business partners – to operate responsibly and act with integrity, fairness and responsibility in all aspects of their business. With the use of the Code of Conduct, we ensure to select and retain business partners who share our commitment to responsible and sustainable production as defined by internationally agreed conventions, standards, and guidelines. All suppliers are expected to comply with national legislation, regulations, and applicable practices and industry standards as relevant to their business.
Our electricity is sourced from renewable energy sources and we use LED lighting and Energy Star-rated appliances in our head office. We are working towards having zero waste in our work space. The paper we use is recycled, and we recycle glass, aluminum, plastic, and paper waste from what we consume.
We encourage our team to cycle to and from work and to take public transportation. In the beginning of 2021 we partnered up with CleanHub to offset all full time employees’ plastic use equivalent to the world average of 7 kg per person/month - on top of the offset of products sold.
Furthermore, our office in Copenhagen is carbon neutral, and in order to do so, we have chosen to support Burgos Wind Project in the Philippines, a UN certified project focusing not only on producing clean energy, but also on leading projects and initiatives with the local governments and communities that promote the protection of the environment.
